It has been a week for cool Doctor Who illustrations! The latest incarnation of the show has certainly boosted the popularity of the series and I suppose that has inspired new fans to be creativity as well as driven those of us who have been die hard fans since the sets were made of card board to flaunt our useless trivia..
Bob Canada has created this marvelous infographic to bring the noobs up to speed on the backstory of one of televisions most convoluted characters.
I’m greatly looking forward to A Christmas Carol, based on one of the earliest time travel stories in English literature.. I’m sure Steven Moffat will have an interesting and horrific twist on Charles Dickens‘ tale. I’ve always been fascinated with the original story, Scrooge is redeemed through seeing his life in a new perspective. He has the privilege of seeing the whole of his material existence in much of the same way as Kurt Vonnegut‘s Billy Pilgrim in Slaughterhouse Five. I was once inspired to create a contemporary alternative about a financial analyst who steals millions from people using accounting games, but it was an unreadable piece of trash. I think it had some strong ideas but it was a tool for helping me discover the weaknesses in my writing abilities. I only wish I had been able to force my ex to read it as part of his deposition, it was largely inspired by his moral ambiguities. The reading would at least have added several hours of squirming to his reptilian existence.
I am still fascinated by redemption stories, time and experience are wonderful engines for self transformation. In many ways I see all life as a processes of redeeming our own self ignorance, that’s certainly a pervasive theme throughout Rise and Shine. Knowing who you are and what you are capable is the only way to change life for the better.
