Appreciation

According to Buddhism and backed by scientific research, the happiest people live in a state of perpetual gratitude. They don’t take one day out of the year to be thankful, they maintain a constant attitude of grace. All too often we indulge the victim mindset, viewing destiny as a series of punishments rather than exercises designed to tone and strengthen us.

Isn’t a glass of water more precious to a man lost in a desert? I’m sure when all of the trials of these last few years are behind me, I will find myself an oasis where I can embrace my creative pursuits without struggle and without distraction. I think I have lived in uncertainty so I could explore the philosophies available to me, to experiment with the different choices I am priviledged to have, but I think that story has come to a close.

While I will always have more to discover about myself, the next chapter is about applying the wisdom I’ve gained. It’s time to set boundaries, to uphold my principles, and protect my own self interest as I would for anyone else. I believe I have finally learned one of the hardest lessons, to respect and appreciate my own life.
